Gunmen kill 14, burn victims in Kaduna Gunmen struck in Janruwa community, Maganda district in Birnin Gwari local government area of Kaduna state, killing and burning 14 persons beyond recognition. The tragic incident occurred around 1pm on Saturday. A witness told TheCable that immediately the invaders got to the village, they opened fire from different directions. Most of the victims were said to be local miners. “Some of those killed were said to have been burnt beyond recognition. In a cruel and inhuman manner, the bandits burnt many of their victims beyond recognition,” the resident said. Another witness said seven corpses were taken to the morgue at the Jibril Maigwari General Hospital Birnin Gwari while others were buried in accordance with Islamic rites. Thirteen people who sustained injuries from gunshots were said to have been taken to a hospital in Kaduna. MAYDAY!!!’, the scholar likened the security situation in the country to that of the Aeroflot Flight 593 of September 28, 1994 where all passengers died because the pilot left the cockpit to the mercy of his family members while he went to salute the passengers. Benue attacks: Pope Francis reacts to killing of  Rev. Fathers, 17 others by herdsmen Pope Francis on Sunday decried the attack on a church in Nigeria. The Pope was reacting to the killing of two Catholic priests and 17 other worshippers in Benue State by Fulani herdsmen last week Tuesday. Associated Press reports that the pontiff spoke concerning the killings in Nigeria during his remarks to the public in St. Peter’s Square. The newspaper reports that “The pontiff prayed that Nigeria’s Christian community find harmony and peace.” DAILY POST had reported that suspected herdsmen, Tuesday morning attacked Ayar Mbalom village in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State, killing 19 persons and burning down over 35 houses. Among those killed were Rev Fathers Gor Joseph, Felix and many others.

Soldiers arrest key Boko Haram suspect linked to Benue attacks  The Nigerian Army said that it has arrested a key Boko Haram suspect behind the recent killings in Benue state. In a statement issued  on Friday  by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Major Olabisi Ayeni said that the arrest was made possible through combined troops of 707 Special Forces Brigade, Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services in Makurdi. Ayeni identified the arrested Boko Haram as Aminu Yaminu aka Tarshaku. Police Deny Attack On Mosques In Benue The police have denied the reported attacks on some mosques and another church in Benue State. In a statement on Thursday by the police authorities in the state, they faulted the reports as falsehood and asked the public to ignore them. “The Benue State Police Command would like to advise the general public to disregard the information being circulated that four mosques were set ablaze in Makurdi by some hoodlums. “Similar information is being circulated that another church was attacked by bandits at Agana Village in Mbaloh Ward of Gwer East Local Government Area of the State. These are nothing but falsehood, believably meant to cause break down of law and order in the state,” the statement read.
